Can a Windows Vista upgrade disc fix a compter with Vista already installed?

Q. Last August I bought a compaq desktop with vista already installed. Last month my friend left me barrow his Windows vista Disc to clean out my computer. The only problem is it was for Dell. It work for a month then a few days ago it said the product keys didn't match. Now I am searching our local wal*mart. But they only carry the upgrades. So it leaves me to the question, Can a Windows Vista upgrade disc fix a compter with Vista already installed?

A. Honestly, I am not sure of what your problem is. If your friend gave you a Dell system disk and you put it in a Compaq, nothing will happen. If he gave you a disk from Vista, it would have requested a product key before anything happened. The only way you can clean your system is using the Windows backup and creating a backup disk.

The best time to make a backup disk is when you first get you computer, before you begin to surf the web and coming in contact with a lot of bad sites. If you wait too late, you could already have bad files on your computer and the only way to get them off, before they do any damage, is by overwriting them. I think this is where your friend was getting at. You can do this with system restore; restoring your system to it's original condition.

If you are using Vista, to run System Restore, click your Desktop Icon and type System Restore in the Start Search box. Then, follow the direction on your screen.

Hope this answers your question!

Can I reload Windows Vista on my laptop?
Q. I have taken my laptop to the shop and the internet is still running slow. It is the only thing on my laptop that is running slow. I connected my modem to another laptop and it was fine. What can I do to fix this issue? I'm thinking that there is some sort of virus within the Internet itself on that laptop. Will reloading Windows Vista fix this and will it take up my memory?

A. It probably won't make a difference and shouldn't be necessary, next time you're connected, right click on the network connection icon that is on your taskbar and select "diagnose and repair", if it recommends some things to do, try one. If it doesn't seem to change anything run "diagnose and repair" again and try something else.

also open Windows Update and check for updates, install the important ones and look at the recommended ones to see if there is anything possibly related to your problem.

How do I run a file as Administrator while using Windows XP Professional Corporate, using SP3?
Q. My friend's Aion doesn't work properly, and we're trying to figure out how to run it as Administrator; running NCSoft as Administrator in Windows Vista fixed the same issue. How do I "Run as Administrator?" for Windows XP Professional Corporate?

A. Be signed into the administrator's screen name. All actions done while logged in as an administrator gives administrative rights to the executable. That is one of the main reasons viruses are able to so easily propagate on XP, and prior.
