how much hdd do you need to run win vista?
Q. I was just at the computer store and was trying out Win. Vista when I noticed the massive HDD. Why?
How much HDD and Memory is neede to run Win. Vista?

A. Vista is only 7 point some odd gigs of data for the 64 bit Ultimate version. So it doesn't necessarilly need a HUGE HDD. However in todays world where most programs, photos, music ect. are in the megabyte range it's not long before the normal average person has gigs upon gigs (BILLIONS) of data stored, not to forget about the "D" partiton used for backup and recovery. The Minimum Vista version requires 512MB of ram but I guarantee you the worst experience "EVER" with that amount. 1 gig will do but 2 is MUCH better, the more the merrier with RAM on any PC. I have a very high end PC and when I use others PC's I absolutely HATE them for thier slowness. I got spoiled!

What's the difference between Windows Vista and Windows XP Pro?
Q. Well we have a desk top computer and it used to have Windows Vista, but now it had Windows XP Pro. What's the difference? Is there anything new I can do on it?

A. Like most things there are good and bad points about both XP and Vista.

The start menu is more advanced in Vista compared to XP. With Vista, you have a much broader range of search leverage. Another significant change is in the âAll Programsâ area. XP can be somewhat of a problem to keep the programs organized when you have several whereas with the Vista the programs are scrolled within the start menu making it much less confusing when you want to find a particular program.

Everyone finds the âAll Programs Listâ in XP frustrating. It can be overwhelming with its 3 column wide display. Now in Vista the folders open and close with a single click. In addition to this in Vista, the ability to search is always present. This way to find somethingà you just type the item and all related items appear quickly.

In Vista there is a power button in the bottom right hand corner. This allows all the pending updates to be installed and then once the update process is completed puts the computer into sleep mode. This is not something that XP has.

In XP when you want to perform the lock function you have to press Ctrl-Alt-Del whereas in Vista there is a simple lock button that will perform the task. In addition to these power functions, you will find other related power functions available to you by way of a pop up menu. In essence, these are all merely time savers and a means of convenience. According to Microsoft, security of Windows Vista is much improved than XP. As part of this, a new feature called UAC (User Account Control) is included in Vista. One of the critical differences between both, is the hardware requirements. To achieve the same level of performance as XP, Vista requires more advanced or additional hardware .

Quite often, when one becomes comfortable with a Program such as XP, they really donât place a lot of emphasis on small time savers .

A. You will have to reinstall all of your programs and files from a backup if you have them, as a clean install wipes these out.

What are some ways in which I can tweak and customize Windows Vista Premium?

Q. On my laptop, I am currently running Windows Vista Premium (64-bit). My laptop has 4gb of ram and a 2.5Ghz Centrino Processor. How can I customize Vista so that it runs faster and doesn't hog up system resources for no good reason. I already set Vista up so that it does not keep program drivers loaded in my ram. What else can I do?

A. You can use the provided stock system utilities to tweak Windows Vista to an extent. These can be found in Control Panel under the Orb start menu and in the "Accessories" bar inside the Orb start menu. If you really want to customize Vista however, here are some 3rd party programs you can use to "tweak" Vista to your liking:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.

http://www.stardock.com/Mycolors/downloads.asp

Stardock MyColors allows you to choose and install custom themes for Windows Vista. Themes to use can be found at Stardock's website.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.

http://unlockforus.blogspot.com/2007/11/winbubbles-features-gap.html

WinBubble is essentially a free "TweakUI" replacement made for Windows Vista. This program allows you to fine-tune the more hidden aspects of the operating system, such as activating extra hidden menu animations, changing your computer and registration info, and a whole lot more.

Whats the difference between Windows vista and windows vista upgrade?
Q. ok, i looked at vista boxes, and i saw 2 different windows vista ultimate. I saw Windows vista Ultimate cost around 500$ and Windows vista Upgrade cost 200$. What the hell is the difference?

A. Hey Joao Chris A.,

Windows Vista Ultimate upgrade is the cheaper edition of Vista for good reason. The upgrade edition allows you to upgrade your exiting operating system, like Windows XP Pro or Home, to Windows Vista, whilst keeping your existing files and settings.

Basically, the upgrade edition is cheaper because Microsoft has chosen to charge less if you are already using their software. The idea is that Vista upgrade edition will only let you 'upgrade' your current software to Vista, and not do a 'clean install'.

Windows Vista Ultimate complete edition typically comes with new PC's and allows people to 'clean install' Vista should they need to. The complete edition can also be used to 'upgrade' an existing operating system.

Basically, Ultimate upgrade can upgrade your existing software, whilst Ultimate 'complete edition' can upgrade and clean install.

Hope this helps!

Why is Windows Vista lying to me about the Internet?

Q. I'm on Windows Vista, and I'm having some extremely annoying problems with the Internet. If I stop using the Internet for a few minutes it will completely disconnect and say I'm still connected. I've looked at the connection settings and everything seems right, but when I try to go to any web page it won't work. The only solution I've found is to unplug the Ethernet cable and plug it back in, and it only works occasionally. Any ideas?

Hope this helps!

how much hdd do you need to run win vista?

How long should it take to uncompress a 3gig zip file (min/max) with intel duo core processer and win vista?
Q. I have a 3 gig zip file that I compressed using windows standard compression on an XP machine (took 40 minutes to compress). I migrated the file to my new computer Intel Duo Core Processor with Win Vista running - its still running after 3 hours? Is this what is to be expected?

A. Wow, that's too long friend. I just unzipped a file that was 3.1GB's and it took 12 mins. I'm running on a AMD 64x Dual Core, Vista installed. It may be different with Intel, I personally have always felt AMD was faster, but it can't be by as much as you claim. Something is wrong with either the zip file, or your computer being slowed down by some other force such as spyware or a virus.

And UAC is enableD!
:))) NOoo it is my school tablet and we want to kill time durin lunch time, and with the firewall enabled we cant play :((

A. Hmm if you don't have admin rights to a laptop and want to turn off the firewall then you are probably doing something illegal or tampering with something. There is no reason to disable vista's firewall because it doesn't block any legit connections only harmful ones. Contact the admin of the computer to help you disable it

There is no reason to disable vista's firewall because it doesn't block any legit connections only harmful ones. Contact the admin of the computer to help you disable it

Computer is wiped clear of all memory after reinstalling Windows Vista. How do I fix this?

Q. My brother's computer had an error as the computer was booting up telling him to reinstall Windows Vista. He did this and now all of our files are gone and we cannot even connect to a network to access the internet. I've even tried a system restore.

Is there any way we can reconnect to our network or better yet, retrieve our old files again?

A. What your brother did? If he deleted all the partitions while installing Vista means, you lost all files forever. Also if u kept your files in C drive means(like my documents, desktop), again you lost it.

What type of internet connection you are using? Try to install Lan driver or WLand driver(deponds on your type of internet connection) and connect to internet. Or simply do some configurations according to your internet type. Mind has nothing to do. I install Lan driver and then i connect my modem to browse. thats all

Will Windows 7 have less errors than Windows Vista when trying to install older games?
Q. I have a computer running Windows Vista and I keep running into errors and issues when installing my games for Windows 98 or Windows 95. Would upgrading to Windows 7 take care of some of those issues and errors with the old computer games?

A.

What games are available for me to play that is compatible with Windows Vista. I keep getting a error msg?
Q. I keep getting this message that this game is unfortunately not compatible with Windows Vista. I only want to play the web game.

A. I have had Vista Premium or a few months now and have no problems playing any game, or doing anything with Vista. If you are having issues with some games, it's likely that they are very old and have not been updatd for Vista. You may be able to search for a patch for the games, or more easily, just use an XP computer to play older games. Keep in mind that Vista is a top end operating system and relly meant to run the most modern of software. Some things simply will not work with Vista that are not intended for high end PC's.

I validated my Windows Vista-software, yet a message keeps repeating that it isn't genuine?
Q. I validated my Windows Vista-software, yet the error ''This copy of Microsoft Windows is not genuine'' keeps appearing still. What should I do?

A. If you're sure its real, the only thing i can think that causes problems with WGA is when the date and/or time is incorrect. That will kick it out every time.

How do I run a file as Administrator while using Windows XP Professional Corporate, using SP3?

Q. My friend's Aion doesn't work properly, and we're trying to figure out how to run it as Administrator; running NCSoft as Administrator in Windows Vista fixed the same issue. How do I "Run as Administrator?" for Windows XP Professional Corporate?

A. Be signed into the administrator's screen name. All actions done while logged in as an administrator gives administrative rights to the executable. That is one of the main reasons viruses are able to so easily propagate on XP, and prior.

What Drivers would i have to fix or install if i installed windows vista on my acer aspire one?
Q. dont tell me if i should or should not install windows vista....<----thats not my question. i just want to know what drivers i have to install or fix? and will my wifi work because most ppl who installed windows vista on their acer aspire one had problems with the wireless internet connection.

A. I would dare say that they would have more problems than just the wireless... for one thing, the acer aspire one (which I have one of my own) does not have resources enough to run Vista reliably, system requirements for Vista are a MINIMUM of 2GB ram and the one maxes out at only 1.5GB. The unreliability of Vista running with the choked 1.5GB would be nerve wracking at best. I have a dual boot with Ubuntu netbook remix 9.04 and love it...its even much faster than XP, and no need for the anti-virus either, which is a major help freeing up system resources. UNR works 100% with the aspire one, straight out of the box.

How can I fix the wireless problem on my window vista HP laptop?
Q. My wireless has completely disappeared , and it can't no longer connect to my wireless network, i have a HP Pavilion dv2000 which is running windows vista , any suggestions on how to fix it , thank you

A. format and put windows 7.

Any ideas?

A. Windows Vista is a just a big fat liar.

Sitting on a telephone wire.

With his pants on fire.

Q. I have recently bought a new computer, windows Vista, and now am trying to learn things. Im not computer illterate, but Im not computer savy either. I need a book, where things are explained well, and SIMPLE, but not something for dummies, I do know the basics.
