how much hdd do you need to run win vista?
Q. I was just at the computer store and was trying out Win. Vista when I noticed the massive HDD. Why?
How much HDD and Memory is neede to run Win. Vista?

A. Vista is only 7 point some odd gigs of data for the 64 bit Ultimate version. So it doesn't necessarilly need a HUGE HDD. However in todays world where most programs, photos, music ect. are in the megabyte range it's not long before the normal average person has gigs upon gigs (BILLIONS) of data stored, not to forget about the "D" partiton used for backup and recovery. The Minimum Vista version requires 512MB of ram but I guarantee you the worst experience "EVER" with that amount. 1 gig will do but 2 is MUCH better, the more the merrier with RAM on any PC. I have a very high end PC and when I use others PC's I absolutely HATE them for thier slowness. I got spoiled!

What's the difference between Windows Vista and Windows XP Pro?
Q. Well we have a desk top computer and it used to have Windows Vista, but now it had Windows XP Pro. What's the difference? Is there anything new I can do on it?

A. Like most things there are good and bad points about both XP and Vista.

The start menu is more advanced in Vista compared to XP. With Vista, you have a much broader range of search leverage. Another significant change is in the âAll Programsâ area. XP can be somewhat of a problem to keep the programs organized when you have several whereas with the Vista the programs are scrolled within the start menu making it much less confusing when you want to find a particular program.

Everyone finds the âAll Programs Listâ in XP frustrating. It can be overwhelming with its 3 column wide display. Now in Vista the folders open and close with a single click. In addition to this in Vista, the ability to search is always present. This way to find somethingà you just type the item and all related items appear quickly.

In Vista there is a power button in the bottom right hand corner. This allows all the pending updates to be installed and then once the update process is completed puts the computer into sleep mode. This is not something that XP has.

In XP when you want to perform the lock function you have to press Ctrl-Alt-Del whereas in Vista there is a simple lock button that will perform the task. In addition to these power functions, you will find other related power functions available to you by way of a pop up menu. In essence, these are all merely time savers and a means of convenience. According to Microsoft, security of Windows Vista is much improved than XP. As part of this, a new feature called UAC (User Account Control) is included in Vista. One of the critical differences between both, is the hardware requirements. To achieve the same level of performance as XP, Vista requires more advanced or additional hardware .

Quite often, when one becomes comfortable with a Program such as XP, they really donât place a lot of emphasis on small time savers .

I installed windows vista home premium and now everything is gone. How do I go back to how it was before?
Q. I previously had Windows Vista Home Basic. I installed the Home Premium, but when I installed it I could not upgrade so I chose clean installation. Now everything is gone, programs, webcam, default programs my Dell came with. How do I fix it!

A. You will have to reinstall all of your programs and files from a backup if you have them, as a clean install wipes these out.

What are some ways in which I can tweak and customize Windows Vista Premium?

Q. On my laptop, I am currently running Windows Vista Premium (64-bit). My laptop has 4gb of ram and a 2.5Ghz Centrino Processor. How can I customize Vista so that it runs faster and doesn't hog up system resources for no good reason. I already set Vista up so that it does not keep program drivers loaded in my ram. What else can I do?

A. You can use the provided stock system utilities to tweak Windows Vista to an extent. These can be found in Control Panel under the Orb start menu and in the "Accessories" bar inside the Orb start menu. If you really want to customize Vista however, here are some 3rd party programs you can use to "tweak" Vista to your liking:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.

Stardock MyColors allows you to choose and install custom themes for Windows Vista. Themes to use can be found at Stardock's website.

2.

http://unlockforus.blogspot.com/2007/11/winbubbles-features-gap.html

WinBubble is essentially a free "TweakUI" replacement made for Windows Vista. This program allows you to fine-tune the more hidden aspects of the operating system, such as activating extra hidden menu animations, changing your computer and registration info, and a whole lot more.

Whats the difference between Windows vista and windows vista upgrade?
Q. ok, i looked at vista boxes, and i saw 2 different windows vista ultimate. I saw Windows vista Ultimate cost around 500$ and Windows vista Upgrade cost 200$. What the hell is the difference?

A. Hey Joao Chris A.,

Windows Vista Ultimate upgrade is the cheaper edition of Vista for good reason. The upgrade edition allows you to upgrade your exiting operating system, like Windows XP Pro or Home, to Windows Vista, whilst keeping your existing files and settings.

Basically, the upgrade edition is cheaper because Microsoft has chosen to charge less if you are already using their software. The idea is that Vista upgrade edition will only let you 'upgrade' your current software to Vista, and not do a 'clean install'.

Windows Vista Ultimate complete edition typically comes with new PC's and allows people to 'clean install' Vista should they need to. The complete edition can also be used to 'upgrade' an existing operating system.

Basically, Ultimate upgrade can upgrade your existing software, whilst Ultimate 'complete edition' can upgrade and clean install.

Hope this helps!

Q. I'm on Windows Vista, and I'm having some extremely annoying problems with the Internet. If I stop using the Internet for a few minutes it will completely disconnect and say I'm still connected.
